History

Calcu began life in 2003 as the special and unique project of the Hurtado family, who have over a century’s worth of experience making quality wines in the Colchagua Valley. They found a unique place in Marchigüe marked by hills of granite stone, inspiring the origin of the name Calcu Vineyards from a play on words - “CAL: Hill” and “CUrá: Stone”

Granite hills with clay seams, the proximity of the vineyard to the sea, just 26 kilometres from the Pacific Ocean, and the altitude combined with differing orientation of the slopes make for a perfect blend that reflects the personality of the vineyard. This enables each variety of Calcu wine to showcase the brand’s characteristic freshness, structure, verve and depth.
