“We designed each of the 166 micro-terroirs with our winemaking advisor, Xavier Choné using a high-precision manual process, following the orientation of the slopes and the natural clay seams present on the site. This resulted in a unique vineyard architecture of small blocks of less than one hectare in many cases, with slopes and diverse, irregular shapes. This allows each variety to find the ideal place within the vineyard where it can express its maximum potential,” explains Ricardo Rivadeneira, Executive Director.
Marchigüe is located 140 kilometres south of Santiago and 26 kilometres from the cool Pacific Ocean. It offers the perfect combination of stony soils and a Mediterranean climate with a prolonged dry season and gentle sea breezes during the summer that drastically reduce the temperatures in the afternoon.
Calcu hand-made vineyards stand out for their architecture, which feature small blocks over gentle granitic slopes of the coastal hills. The soils contain important seams of clay which are preserved and maintained as they contribute to the wines’ characteristic structure, texture and depth.
